Samsung AT&T Eternity

As the era of touchscreen dominance continues on as strong as ever, Samsung is now working hard to become the newest major player to the likes of Apple and Blackberry. The Instinct, Samsung’s first major venture into the world of touchscreen phones, released in the U.S. in June with much fanfare. We knew it would only be a matter of time before Samsung made touchscreen phones for everyone else.

And they did not disappoint. Quite the opposite, in fact — Samsung launched a whole campaign as a result of the Instinct’s success, taking a form factor based on the Omnia model sold in Europe using their Touchwiz UI.

As part of this Touchwiz campaign, AT&T released the Samsung Eternity last week, and I had the opportunity to spend some time with it. I was quite excited to play with it as I had heard it would have this innovative new UI never before seen in the States.

Samsung AT&T Eternity Features

While Samsung’s AT&T Eternity is not a smartphone, it is still packed with plenty of goodies.

The camera is 3 MP with video capture and video share capability. Additionally the camera offers panoramic pictures, autofocus, red-eye reduction and a “smile detection” feature which will automatically take the picture as soon as a smile is present.

Interested in playing music? The Eternity includes 3 GB internal memory along with microSD support to expand that number. It doesn’t seem like much compared to the 8 GB the Omnia packs, but it is a welcome sight considering most AT&T phones don’t offer more than 1 GB internally. The music player accepts MP3 formats, and can be synced through Windows Media on your computer.

The AT&T Eternity is quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band 3G (850/1900; no 2100). It also sports aGPS with Navigation services available, M3 hearing aid compatibility, stereo bluetooth, video share, mobile email, and accelerometer.

Internet surfing is made easy on the Eternity with the Openwave browser offering full HTML viewing. I do wish it would be easier to zoom in and out on specific areas of each page, but still impressive for one of AT&T’s dumbphones nonetheless.

Be Careful When Buying A Cellular Phone

As technology grows at an exponential rate, cell phones are constantly being outdated and replaced with new more advanced models. In fact when you think about it there's always a new cell phone every month that you haven't heard about. So the question is, do you really need a brand new high tech cell phone? The answer is whatever you want it to be, however if you know you won't use all the features and gadgets on all the new cell phones today, then you're better off buying a used cellular phone.

There are of course things you must be aware of when purchasing used cellular phones and they include everything from possible battery problems to not being able to unlock the phone because it was in fact stolen. Usually when a cell phone is stolen, the owner will call up their cell phone plan provider and ask them to cancel or change their account. What then happens is the phone that was stolen will be locked and no one will be able to use it again. Here are the things you have to look out for most when buying a used cellular phone...

Caution Number 1

Check to see who the owner is. If you are buying the used cellular phone off a complete stranger, which is usually the case, ask the when and where they bought the phone from. Then ask them if they can show you the documents that came with the phone. If they can't provide these documents then don't purchase the phone because chances are it was stolen. If fact you are better off not buying a used cellular phone from a complete stranger at all, but if you do, get their details, including phone number, address and where they work. That way if you find out the phone is stolen later, you can always send the police after them and get your money back.

Caution Number 2

Does the phone work properly? This means, how long does the battery last for? Does the screen work properly and if there are other features like a camera for example, do they work? Make sure you test the used cellular phone out before you buy it. Ask the owner if you can hold onto it for a day to see how long the battery lasts for. Chances are if they won't let you test it out, there must be some kind of complication associated with it.

Caution Number 3

With the high cost of cellular phones today, there is definitely a possibility that the used cellular phone that you are considering was in fact stolen. Often thieves will steal someone’s phone, wipe the memory, or re-furbish it, and sell it to an unsuspecting victim. Or, sometimes they steal the phones directly from the manufacturer, making the overall cost of the cellular phones that much higher because of the cost of recovery. Basically, the old idea is still true, even for a modern cellular phone. If the deal is too good to be true, be wary.

Of course buying a used cellular phone is a great way to save money, especially if you are one of those people who just likes to use a phone as a phone and not as a camera of music player. Essentially you're going to save yourself a heap of money.

Nokia C5-03 (Green Cadet)

The Nokia C5-03 is a grandson of the best-selling Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and though it might be the last hurrah for Symbian^1 (or Symbian S60 as old-timers call it) it tries to deliver the same level of satisfaction on the bang for buck meter.

Key features

* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
* Tri-band 3G with 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2 Mbps HSUPA support
* 3.2" 16M-color TFT LCD resistive touchscreen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution
* 5 megapixel fixed-focus camera and VGA video @ 15fps recording; geotagging
* Symbian S60 OS
* 600 MHz ARM 11 CPU and 128 MB RAM
* Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g; UPnP
* GPS receiver with A-GPS support and free lifetime voice-guided navigation; free city guides and traffic information
* Digital compass
* 40MB on-board storage, microSD expandable up to 16GB; 2GB card included
* Built-in accelerometer
* Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
* Stereo FM Radio with RDS
* microUSB port (charging)
* Flash and Java support in the web browser
* Stereo Bluetooth 2.0
* Very good audio quality
* Voice commands

Main disadvantages

* Symbian S60 hasn’t aged well
* Relatively limited 3rd party software availability
* Screen has poor viewing angles and behaves badly in the sun
* The camera is a fixed-focus unit with no flash, shutter key or lens protection
* No office document editing (without a paid upgrade); No PDF viewer
* No proximity and ambient light sensors
* No DivX or XviD video support out of the box
* No video-call camera
* No smart dialing

The C5-03 is a very eco-friendly gadget – 80% of the phone body is recyclable, while half of the packaging comes from recycled material (and all of it is recyclable in turn).

It’s a low-price phone with some high-speed connectivity with 10.2Mbps HSDPA and 2Mbps HSUPA. The C5-03 also packs the fastest CPU available on a Nokia S60 device – at 600MHz the old but efficient Symbian just flies.

The free voice-guided navigation is the single biggest advantage of Symbian-powered Nokias, one that is still unmatched by any other brand or platform. The Nokia C5-03 is a trusty SatNav unit, which will work anywhere in the world and free of charge – you can download all the maps you need (won’t cost you a thing) and Ovi Maps don’t need a data connection to work.

Tips Merawat HP Agar Awet

Nokia C3 Touch and Type (C3-01)

The Nokia C3 Touch and Type is the more businesslike sibling of the X3 Touch and Type, bringing a small touchscreen display to a standard "candy bar" phone. It's a conventional looking handset with classic Nokia design details, and a much more normal keypad layout than the X3, and that will certainly appeal to many existing Nokia customers.

Nokia have caused some confusion again with their names - the C3 Touch and Type is actually the Nokia C3-01.. the original Nokia C3 (or Nokia C3-00) is a cheap QWERTY messaging phone. The two handsets are very different and will probably be sold alongside each other, which might be confusing.

This is a Series 40 device, rather than being a Symbian smartphone. There's nothing seriously wrong with Series 40 for most users, but it does seem like a wasted effort when Nokia's long term intentions are to push Symbian into all but the simplest phones.

The 2.4" touchscreen is a basic resistive panel with 240 x 320 pixels resolution, and it is basically used for choosing menu options and similar functions. Nokia expect text input be done with the numeric keypad, which seems sensible.

Nokia C3 Touch and Type In specification terms, this is pretty close to the Nokia C5 and Nokia 6700 handsets. It's a 3.5G device with maximum download speeds of 10Mbps on HSPA, and it has support for WiFi, including Wireless "N" networks.

On the back is a 5 megapixel camera with flash and VGA video capture at 15 frames per second. Inside is a microSD slot and a 1050 mAh battery that can provide up to 4 hours talktime on 3G and 18 days standby time.

Software includes some social networking applications, a web browser and music player. The C3 Touch and Type also has a 3.5mm audio socket and an FM radio, so it is quite capable in this respect.

One key thing that the C3 Touch and Type lacks is GPS, but this is actually quite a low-end phone which is priced at around €145 before tax and subsidy, so it is hardly a surprise.

Nokia may have hit on the "next big thing" with these Touch and Type phones.. or they may just be a soon-to-be-forgotten oddity. Really nobody has done this before, and Nokia are in uncharted waters.

The Nokia C3 Touch and Type should be available during Q4 2010 in Silver, Warm Grey and Golden Khaki colours.

Blackberry Bold 9780 Price, Specs and Features

Research in Motion (RIM) has released their latest smartphone, the BlackBerry Bold 9780. Armed with the operating system (OS) BlackBerry 6, this smartphone promises many advantages compared to previous versions, series 9700 or Onyx.
Actually there is nothing so special about this mobile phone design, the shape is identical to the BlackBerry Bold 9700 Onyx. But if you question the “inside content”, obviously this smart phone is more sophisticated, the internal memory is doubled to 512MB, also equipped with better camera - 5 Mega Pixels with auto focus feature, flash, scene modes, image stabilization and double digital zoom. And when speaking about its battery, BlackBerry Bold 9700 has the most impressive standby time and talk time compared with others in Bold family.

Other specifications are no different from the BlackBerry Bold 9700, there is 3G support, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and microSD slot to expand storage capacity. Looks like RIM doesn’t want to announce this mobile phone on a large scale because there was no significant change. Different when compared to the announcement of BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry OS 6.0 which is a big change.

On the BlackBerry 6 platform, RIM did not forget to add another attraction to integrate feeds into social networks like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and of course the BlackBerry Messenger. new YouTube, music and photo applications are also included in it along with an updated UI and WebKit-based browsers.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 will be available for T-Mobile users in the U.S. on November 17, with the price of U.S. $129 (with a contract bond).
